A graduate in directing from the National Theatre School of Canada, Alix Dufresne directs, writes and acts. On the borderline of dance and theater, she develops a hybrid style where body and movement are inductive of meaning. In her creations, she seeks to establish a dialogue between political matter and the resilient body through the use of media materials drawn from reality. The result is creations that put forward raw and instinctive reactions to the current word.
Creator-in-residence at the Centre du Théâtre d’Aujourd’hui (CTD’A) in 2017 and at LA SERRE-arts vivants in 2018-2019, Alix presented Daniel Keene’s Les paroles at Prospero (2014) and Nuits Frauduleuses at CTD’A (2016). She performs in Hidden Paradise, a play she co-created with Marc Béland, a wacky performance about tax evasion presented at Festival TransAmériques (2019).
Her direction of La déesse des mouches à feu at Théâtre de Quat’Sous (2018) earned her the Prix du meilleur spectacle Montréal 2018 awarded by the Association québécoise des critiques de théâtre (AQCT). In close collaboration with playwright Étienne Lepage, she created Malaise dans la civilisation presented at the Festival TransAmériques (FTA) 2022 in Montreal.
